e-hay - good advice indeed, thanks for the note of practicality.
the only problem was that she was downstream from me… trying to fish below her from where i was might have resulted in me hooking her, which i don’t think my knots would have withstood.
it does remind me an episode on the big horn last fall when we got out to wade in some pretty fast, shallow water on a gravel bar and after getting one fish, we looked at our feet and there were several 20+ inch bows so close that each of us could have (and did, accidentally of course) kick a few. they must have been chowing on the stuff we were kicking up, but they were honestly so close to our feet that we couldn’t get a fly in front of them.
