The Bachelor Life

April 14, 2005

There it is.

The green glow of the trees.

I notice it driving across the Mississippi on my way home from work. The tops of the trees in the valley are the palest green but green nonetheless. I can’t help smiling for my body is humming with an unfamiliar hum now.

I stop at the bank and the liquor store on my way home. The traffic on Snelling Ave. is like it only is in the summer. It buzzes and goes nowhere.

When I get home I eat crackers and cheese and drink two beers sitting on the couch watching TV. I can hear the birds singing in the late afternoon. I turn the TV off.

I turn on the radio loud and leave the door open when I go to sit on the balcony to write. The blue sky is crossed with vapor trails from jets. The bushes next door have the green glow too. The birdsong mingles with the music on the radio.

And I miss you.

I can only assume this means you skipped out of work early. I’m going to wander the halls with a picture of you until someone admits to being your manager and let them know.

It sounds like you live right by me.

I also skipped work to fish this week.

    Heh heh.

Let me repeat: I did NOT skip work to fish this week. I am going fishing all weekend and I’m stoked about that.

    Happy Friday.

[...] We got a lot of rain late last week, and though it was… wet, all I could think was how the trees were drinking it up and how the buds will soon appear on the trees, finally awakening the landscape in an undeniable way. [...]
