oh, our poor men’s basketball program. what a long and painful road they’ve traveled, and yet so far they seem to have to go. but, they’re looking good. katie and i went to the game at williams arena last night. the boys dominated chicago state in such a way i’m hopeful they’ll surprise a few people when they get to the big 10.
tucker is a fine guard and hagen proved to be a personal sleeper for me. whenever my eyes were on him, he seemed to be bumbling, stumbling, and fumbling all over the court. but, he put 20 points on the board, more than any of the other guys.
chicago wasn’t bad, i was especially impressed by their field goal abilities. they should definitely do some work on their ball-handling skills in close quarters under the basket. the gophers on the other hand didn’t hit a ton of three-pointers, but had some fine-tuned short distance passing under the basket.
there were a few comical plays with the ball bouncing into the strangest parts of the court, but the gophers worked their butts off and i respect them for that.
the crowd was pretty excellent for such an inconsequential game. the lower decks were almost filled. because the tickets were corporate, we were in the “boring” end where there wasn’t a student to be seen. but the cheering section on the other end gave it their all.
