hmm… so charles baxter found himself some digs in the fashionable neighborhood up and behind the walker art center when he got the job at the u.
maybe it’s time for me to pay him a little a visit and get some resolution on the exchange i had when he did a reading at the weismann art museum a few years back in support of the feast of love (all of it paraphrased so i sound more snooty and he sounds less worthy of oxygen).
guy: well… i think that the reason i didn’t ever let oscar narrate was so that when my readers were done with the book, they would ask themselves, ‘why didn’t we ever hear oscar’s voice?’
i’m sorry, that doesn’t cut it and reading a section in which one of his main female characters farts because she’s nervous doesn’t make everything okay.
well, at the time, baxter was an esteemed professor at the university of michigan, ann arbor and a moderately-successful author. i was a lowly english undergrad at the u of m and thought his short stories and novels weren’t half-bad. now “chuck” has begun teaching at the U and it’s about time for me to get that answer he robbed me of those years ago.
mwahahahahahahaha….
mwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…
i know where you live, charles…
mwaahahahahahahaha…
